Violent incident involving student assault reported at Tesoma School in Tampere
A seventh-grade student assaulted a fellow classmate with a chair last Friday at Tesoma School in Tampere. The incident is now under investigation by the Central Finland Police as an assault. According to Crime Commissioner Markus Antila, the violent situation unfolded during an art class, starting with pencil eraser throwing before escalating to the student striking another with a chair to the upper body. A video of the incident has also been reviewed by the police. Antila did not provide further details regarding the victim’s potential injuries, stating that the student received treatment both at school and externally.
Päivi Ikola, the principal of Tesoma School, confirmed the occurrence of the violent incident involving minors and refrained from commenting further for this reason. She assured that all necessary immediate actions have been taken within the school.
Antila noted that discussions about the incident have sparked significant discourse on social media, expressing concern over threats made by adults against the assailant, including violent retribution. He highlighted the prevalence of misinformation surrounding the event, stating that adults threatening violence against a child is unacceptable.
Antila urged the community to allow authorities to handle the case and discourage individuals from taking justice into their own hands, particularly on social media. He remarked on the general trend of increasing physical violence in schools, indicating that instances like the Tesoma case may often be linked to bullying, contributing to the escalation of violence.
