Denmark’s Accident Investigation Board has released preliminary findings into the April 23 head-on collision on the Gribskov line in North Zealand, stating the crash appears to stem from human error.
Two trains collided after one failed to stop at Slotspavillonen Station as required, continuing onto a section where another train was approaching, according to Klaus Seneca Jensen, technical head of the board’s railway unit.
Initial investigations ruled out faults in the signalling equipment. Jensen confirmed the system relies on the train driver observing and adhering to signals, and in this case, the evidence points to human failure.
A secondary issue was identified: the Hillerød-to-Gilleleje train had entered an incorrect train number into the radio system, complicating efforts to track it as it passed Slotspavillonen. Investigators will determine whether this contributed to the accident.
The board expects to complete its final report within approximately one year.
