Man dies after one-punch assault at Kemi festival
A middle-aged man has died after being assaulted near the gates of the Satama Open Air festival in central Kemi, Yle reports, citing the Lapland police.
The man, who was born in the 1970s and was from Sea Lapland, was assaulted shortly after midnight on the night between Friday and Saturday. He died from injuries sustained in the assault at Oulu University Hospital on Monday morning.
According to Miska Sillanpää, the Lapland police investigator in charge, a man considerably younger than the victim punched him once. The victim fell and hit his head on the asphalt.
It is not known whether the two men, who had not previously known each other, had argued before the punch.
Festival security guards saw the incident and detained the suspected attacker.
The Lapland police are investigating the case as aggravated assault and causing death. Iltalehti was the first to report the assault.
