Firefighters contain overnight forest fire in Mols Bjerge

Firefighters have extinguished a forest fire in Vistoft Plantation in Mols Bjerge on Djursland after a demanding operation that continued through the night, DR reported. No injuries have been reported.

The fire broke out yesterday evening and was first reported by a member of the public who saw smoke on the horizon. Local crews initially had difficulty locating the flames.

Firefighters from Knebel, Rønde and Ebeltoft took part in the operation, supported by Østjyllands Brandvæsen’s drone unit, volunteer crews from Grenaa and Randers, and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.

Some areas were affected by large flames, while other parts of the fire continued to smoulder beneath the forest floor. Crews used thermal cameras and drones to locate and extinguish hidden embers.

“It has been a demanding operation to put it out,” incident commander Carsten Pedersen of Beredskab and Sikkerhed said.

The burned area was estimated to be equivalent to a couple of football pitches. Pedersen said forest fires of this size were unusual in the area, where crews more often respond to fires in fields and similar locations.

The fire was brought under control, and the final extinguishing work was completed during the morning.
