The Finnish government is drafting an extension to the temporary border security law introduced in 2024 to counter instrumentalized migration, state broadcaster Yle reported Tuesday, citing a statement from the interior ministry.
Interior minister Mari Rantanen (Finns Party) described the situation along Finland’s eastern border as “tense but stable.” The original law, enacted in July 2024 with a one-year term, was previously extended through the end of 2025.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (National Coalition Party) last week stated that the law requires further continuation, arguing that the security situation has not improved.
