Greta Thunberg says she receives countless death threats every day and is harassed when she goes outside, SVT reported after an interview with her on the broadcaster’s Morgonstudion programme.
The Fridays for Future movement began with Thunberg’s school strike in Stockholm before growing into a global youth movement that entered international politics. She has continued to use her public platform as a climate activist.
“I cannot go outside without being harassed,” Thunberg said. She added that she hoped young women who become involved in activism would not have to endure what she and others have experienced.
Director Helena Moli said the documentary Strejkarna aims to understand the movement from the activists’ perspective. She said the harsh rhetoric directed at activists was among the most dangerous things she could imagine.
Strejkarna will be broadcast on SVT 1 on Tuesday evening and is available on SVT Play.
