Tourist bus blocks Trollstigen mountain road causing traffic chaos
A tourist bus has become stuck on Norway’s famous Trollstigen mountain road, blocking traffic just three days after the route’s record-early seasonal opening, police report.
According to Møre og Romsdal police district, the bus became wedged in a tight bend on Thursday afternoon, forcing authorities to close the road to all vehicles except motorcycles and bicycles. A tow truck has been called, but delays are expected before the vehicle can be removed.
Photographer Arnt Morten Olsen, who captured images of the incident, told Dagbladet that dozens of cars—many with German and Dutch licence plates—were stranded below the mountain pass. “They came because the road opened earlier than usual this year,” Olsen said. He added that camper vans were also trapped behind the bus and that passengers had disembarked to walk down on foot.
“I think the driver misjudged the turn,” Olsen stated.
Trollstigen, known for its steep inclines and sharp hairpin bends, typically opens in late May but was accessible to traffic this week due to mild spring conditions.
