Faroese government reform committee disbands ahead of new administration
The Faroese government reform committee, established in 2025 by former Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen, will not continue its work, incoming Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen confirmed to public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
Johannesen, leader of the People’s Party, stated that the new coalition government has its own plans for reforms during the upcoming term. The committee was tasked with advising on structural changes to strengthen public finances.
Ben Arabo, the committee’s former chair, stepped down after being nominated as a candidate for the Social Democratic Party in the recent parliamentary elections. Other members included Súni Selfoss, chair of the Employers’ Association; Marita Rasmussen, director of the Faroese Marine Research Institute; Heri á Rógvi, director of Lóðra; Hjørdis Gaard Lailudóttir, director of Movera; Óluva Klettskarð, a secondary school teacher; John Rajani, chief of staff to the Prime Minister; and Bjarni Askham Bjarnason, director-general of the Ministry of Finance.
