People without a residential tie to the Faroe Islands now account for half of the population growth, according to KVF. People with residential ties account for the other half.

Those without a residential tie had previously accounted for only a quarter of the growth.

From 2024 through March this year, the largest share of annual population growth came from people with a residential tie, Statistics Faroe Islands reported.

People are considered to have a Faroese residential tie if they have lived half of their lives, or seven out of 10 consecutive years, in the Faroe Islands at some point in their lives.

On 1 July, they accounted for 93.6 per cent of the population of the Faroe Islands. That percentage has never been lower.
