Last week, KrF leader Kjersti Bollestad extended her sick leave until August 31, which means she will miss the party leader debate in Arendal this Thursday. According to various sources within the party, questions are being raised about the future of Bollestad’s leadership. Many members had hoped for clarification on her status before the debate, but this has not occurred.

The turmoil in KrF leadership was initially highlighted in an article published on Tuesday. This has led to open discussions regarding the stability of the party’s leadership. Attempts to reach various members of the KrF leadership for comment have been unsuccessful, as well as efforts to contact Bollestad directly.

Geir Sigbjørn Toskedal, a former MP with over 40 years in the party, emphasized that the leadership needs to clarify the situation. “We cannot live with this uncertainty. If there are personal issues within the leadership, it is their responsibility to resolve them, especially while one is on sick leave,” stated Toskedal.

Despite the challenges, he expressed support for Bollestad, praising her contributions. Regional leaders from Østfold, Vestland, and Telemark have stated they do not believe there is a need for Bollestad to clarify her future role at this time, hoping for her speedy recovery.

In the meantime, KrF faced another crisis poll showing the party still below the electoral threshold. At an event in Arendal, deputy leaders Dag-Inge Ulstein and Ida Lindtveit Røse, along with former leader Kjell Ingolf Ropstad, represented the party. Ulstein, who declined re-election in June, will step in for the party leader debate this Thursday, while Ropstad is also not seeking re-election, leaving Bollestad as the only one in the parliamentary group who has confirmed her candidacy for re-election.
