A birthday celebration in Joensuu’s Hammaslahti district escalated into violence late Saturday night, leading to two attempted murders and multiple assaults, according to a report by Yle.

A group of about ten people were gathered at a rented venue when a fight broke out after midnight. A 35-year-old woman from Joensuu sustained serious stab wounds and fled the scene on foot. Police dog Luigi located her in the surrounding area, enabling emergency responders to provide timely first aid. Authorities stated she would have died without immediate intervention. She is currently in stable condition.

A second victim, a 50-year-old man from Joensuu, also suffered stab wounds requiring hospital treatment. The violence targeted individuals who had attempted to mediate the dispute.

Police are investigating two counts of attempted murder and several assaults. Multiple suspects have been detained, and the sequence of events has largely been established. The primary suspect, a 35-year-old Joensuu man known to both victims, has no prior criminal record. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the incident.

Detective Inspector Antti Kamppuri of the Eastern Finland Police Department declined to specify a possible motive at this stage.
