The Faroese Waste Management Authority (IRF) will open its new bottle return facility in Sandavágur on 1 September, allowing residents to return all bottles and cans in one location, the authority announced today.

Mortan Olsen, head of the facility, said the system will simplify recycling for both customers and retailers by centralising returns. Machines are now installed and undergoing final testing.

Originally scheduled to open six months ago, the project was delayed after storm damage to the building housing the facility. Olsen confirmed the site will be fully operational by the September deadline.
