Norwegian fans denied boarding over disruptive behavior
Several Norwegian football supporters were barred from boarding SAS flights from Copenhagen to New York and Boston on Saturday, Dagbladet reports.
A passenger told the newspaper that some travelers dressed in Viking costumes and under the influence of alcohol were denied entry to their booked flights.
SAS declined to comment on individual cases but stated that passengers may be denied boarding if they are deemed unfit to travel for safety reasons. “The safety of our passengers and colleagues on board is our highest priority,” said SAS press officer Anna Christine Johansen.
Norwegian lawyers Bernt Heiberg and Farid Bouras of Elden Advokatfirma have prepared to assist Norwegians facing legal issues in the U.S. during the World Cup. Heiberg noted that the American legal system is more complex and less familiar to Norwegians, increasing the risk of difficult situations.
“Being in a crisis in a foreign country is often confusing and demanding,” Heiberg said. He advised supporters and relatives to seek legal assistance quickly if problems arise.
Heiberg and Bouras emphasized that U.S. legal proceedings can be particularly challenging for relatives in Norway, especially in cases of serious illness, injury, or death abroad. Bouras added that legal representation is often necessary to protect one’s rights in criminal cases or immigration-related issues.
Elden Advokatfirma has experience coordinating with foreign authorities, insurance companies, and the Norwegian foreign service. Colleagues will be present in the U.S. during the tournament, with access to American law firms for on-the-ground support.
