Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has said he has “never even thought” about Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer as a potential successor as leader of the Moderate Party, according to an interview broadcast on Friday.
In the SVT program “Fördomsshowen” (The Prejudice Show), host Emil Persson pressed Kristersson on whether he sees Strömmer, a party colleague, as a possible replacement.
“I have never even thought about it. But that doesn’t mean he would be unsuitable,” Kristersson said, as reported by SVT.
When the host insisted that Kristersson must at least have considered who might succeed him, adding that Strömmer “is in a good position,” the prime minister responded in the clip aired by the broadcaster.
Strömmer has served as Sweden’s justice minister since 2022 and previously held the role of party secretary for the Moderates. In a Novus poll from spring 2025, he was among the ministers with the highest voter confidence, at 33 percent.
