Finnish Defence Forces sign framework agreement with Sweden for night operation technologies
The Finnish Defence Forces have signed a framework agreement with Sweden’s Defence Material Administration and Finnish company Senop Oy, according to the government. This agreement outlines standardized delivery terms for rapid procurement of devices such as night vision equipment and infrared sights.
Senop’s CEO Aki Korhonen clarifies that the contract includes technology aiding soldiers in night operations. These devices will also facilitate essential intelligence gathering for reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition.
In August 2024, the Finnish Defence Forces entered into a similar contract with Swedish manufacturer Aimpoint AB, from which they aim to procure red dot sights extensively used on their assault rifles. The joint framework with Sweden will enable the Finnish Defence Forces to quickly obtain additional red dot sights as required.
The overarching goal of the agreement is to enhance cost efficiencies. According to Korhonen, this newly signed framework reflects the deepening defense cooperation between Finland and Sweden, aimed at improving mutual logistical security in military optoelectronics and achieving procurement cost benefits.
Senop, specializing in night operation technologies, is part of the Millog and Patria groups. The Finnish Defence Forces are Senop’s primary customer, with the company operating locations in Kangasala, Lievestuore in Laukaa, Oulu, and Tampere.
There is currently no assessment of the employment impact of this collaboration. However, Korhonen notes that an increase in work will lead to a higher demand for personnel, especially along the Jyväskylä-Oulu axis.
