Passenger expresses frustration over bomb threat incident at Billund Airport in Denmark
After checking in her luggage and passing through security, Birgit Bredahl was ready to depart for Rome with a friend. However, an announcement in both Danish and English instructed all passengers to leave the airport. At that moment, it was shortly past 11 AM on April 20 at Billund Airport. Bredahl expressed her frustration at the lack of clarity and swift action in the situation.
As she was guided out of the terminal and into a nearby parking structure, Bredahl noticed it was quite cold outside. It wasn’t until later that she learned about a bomb threat through news reports on her mobile device. A half-year later, she remains frustrated, stating she understands no more about the incident now than she did at that time. A 37-year-old Russian-speaking man is in custody for the matter.
He was arrested at 10:22 AM on April 20, after voluntarily approaching police and surrendering an object he claimed contained explosives, prior to the mass evacuation. Bredahl recalled seeing a detained individual when she arrived at the airport, speculating that he might have been a trespasser, not connecting it to a potential bomb.
Authorities have requested a danger assessment concerning the explosive TATP related to this case, which also involves an earlier incident in which an ATM was detonated nearby.
Despite ongoing investigations, local police have declined to provide further details, citing the sensitive nature of the case. Experts highlight TATP’s extreme instability and danger, indicating that it is often associated with criminal activities rather than organized terrorism. Bredahl has since traveled back to the airport without any issues, relieved that the evacuation was not repeated during her subsequent visits.
