A 16-year-old boy is in serious condition after being stabbed in Roskilde, DR reported, citing the Ritzau news agency. A young man has been arrested on suspicion of the attack, which took place in the street near Louisevej.

Police have not established what led to the incident or its motive, said Thomas Kristensen, communications chief for Mid- and West Zealand Police.

“There are some things that make us believe we can link the arrested man to the attack,” Kristensen told Ritzau.

Police received the report at 5.33pm on Friday. Officers were searching for evidence and questioning witnesses at the scene.

Earlier in the evening, Mid- and West Zealand Police said they had a large presence around Louisevej as part of the investigation. Police said they expected to remain there for several hours and urged people to follow instructions and respect the cordons.

According to Sjællandske Nyheder, a puttefest, or party, was taking place in the area. Police said they were aware that many young people had gathered there, but could not say whether the party and the stabbing were connected.

Sjællandske Nyheder also reported that the 16-year-old was a newly enrolled student at Himmelev Gymnasium, a school in Roskilde. The school’s management has offered crisis support from Saturday morning, with a crisis psychologist available for students affected by the incident.
