Cleaning of the facade of the Finnish Parliament House will need to continue, as announced by parliamentary communications. According to the update, the removal of red staining from the granite facade has been in progress for three days. However, despite these efforts, pigment that has seeped into the joints is continuously surfacing.
The staining has penetrated deeply into the joints, making complete removal through cleaning impossible, which means that the joints may need to be replaced. On Monday, Sari Turunen, the property manager for the Parliament, estimated to STT that the three-day cleaning process will cost about €15,000. It now appears that overall costs for the cleaning effort will rise.
A decision regarding the replacement of the stained joints will be made later, with implementation expected to be postponed until next spring.
The cleaning process commenced on October 7 and utilized hot steam as part of the facade restoration efforts.
