Police have closed their investigation into an attempted manslaughter and assault in Oulu in February, Yle reports. The investigation ended without prosecutors considering charges because the suspect died during the preliminary investigation.

The alleged assault victim was the suspect’s cohabiting partner. The alleged attempted manslaughter victim was their shared child, who was about two weeks old at the time.

Police suspected the man of throwing the baby onto a concrete floor. The child suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The suspect died shortly after the alleged acts, during the early stages of the investigation. Police questioned him before his death.
