It would be a challenge if the Faroe Islands lost certification from the Marine Stewardship Council, Norwegian researcher Frank Asche told Kringvarp Føroya.

Asche has studied the price difference and market access that the MSC label provides for Norway’s fishing industry.

MSC-certified cod commands a higher market price than cod without the label, according to a study covering Norwegian cod prices over eight years.

The price difference is clear in Northern and Western Europe, while MSC certification has no effect on prices in Eastern Europe.
