Swedes encouraged to enhance individual preparedness for crises, says Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency director
Swedes are being encouraged to enhance their individual preparedness for crises by managing various essential needs such as water, heating, communication, food, medication, finances, and sanitation. Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, the Director-General of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency even during disrupted conditions.
Carl-Oskar Bohlin, the Minister for Civil Defense, stated that individuals who usually manage without support should continue to do so during emergencies. He highlighted the principle of solidarity, which entails not becoming a burden on society during crises.
A key update from the agency is that individuals who typically receive municipal assistance are now expected to take greater responsibility for their home preparedness. While support from local authorities is critical in times of crisis, these individuals must also develop tools to ensure their own readiness, according to Gornitzka.
A brochure outlining these preparedness measures will be distributed to households starting November 18, and it is currently available on the MSB website. Additionally, discussions on how to prepare for war and crisis situations, including the importance of sleep, will be available in a video format featuring expert insights.
