Approximately 3,000 residents of the Faroe Islands have participated in a significant satisfaction survey conducted by Kringvarp Føroya in collaboration with Lóður, ahead of the local elections on November 12. This survey marks the first of its kind aimed at capturing an understanding of residents’ satisfaction levels across various municipalities.

The comprehensive satisfaction survey is now available on the Kringvarp Føroya website. “The goal is to gain deeper insights into what citizens in different municipalities truly think about their local government,” says the news manager at Kringvarp Føroya. “We often hear primarily from mayors and occasionally from the opposition, but the voices of the taxpayers, the residents themselves, are typically underrepresented. This is an attempt to close that gap in the knowledge of the media and us all.”

The survey encompasses all Faroese municipalities, except for the small municipality of Skúvoy, which is deemed too small for a statistically significant survey. The news manager assures that satisfaction levels in Skúvoy will be addressed in another manner.

“Municipalities receive more than half of what Faroese citizens pay in taxes. In return, we receive essential services that are vital for our daily lives, such as daycare centers, elderly care homes, roads, sports halls, green spaces, job opportunities, and housing. It’s only logical to ask: Are we satisfied with the services we receive?” questions the news manager.

The satisfaction survey also inquires about how individuals perceive being a resident of their municipality, whether they feel connected to other citizens, would recommend moving to their area, and what they believe others think of their municipality. The hope is that this survey will offer valuable insights across various regions.
