A pedestrian lost their life in a traffic accident at the intersection of Sæbraut and Kleppsmýrarvegur shortly after midnight. This marks the 13th traffic-related death in the area this year, the highest figure in seven years.
The road on Sæbraut was closed in both directions from Vesturlandsvegur to Holtavegur for approximately two hours as emergency services operated at the scene. The police department reminded the public that road closures are necessary for both investigative purposes and to ensure the safety of first responders. Despite these warnings, a significant number of motorists reportedly showed little understanding towards the closures.
Authorities continue to address the rising number of traffic fatalities, expressing concern over the alarming figures recorded so far this year. The latest incident highlights ongoing issues with pedestrian safety and road awareness in the region.
