Dimma guitarist Ingó Geirdal says his fiancée, Marta Sigurðardóttir, was his soulmate and closest friend. He spoke to Morgunblaðið about her death late this summer and the music they shared.
Marta was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago. Although the illness was serious, the couple held on to hope until the end. She underwent surgery, but it was too late to remove the cancer, Ingó said. He described her as remarkably strong and determined throughout her illness.
The two met through music, and Marta went to every Dimma concert, travelling with the band around Iceland. Ingó says playing the band’s music now brings a sense of healing and helps him feel her presence. She had heard many of the songs the band is working on now.
Soon after Marta died, Ingó picked up an acoustic guitar to tune it and a song came to him. He said it felt as if the music had flowed through him, and that it was almost as though Marta had sent it. The song may appear on Dimma’s next album.
Morgunblaðið published the interview in its Sunday edition.
