Icelandic comedian Ari Eldjárn is set to perform at Copenhagen’s historic Royal Theatre, which seats 1,600, on Sunday. He told mbl.is he was excited to take the stage in the venue.

The show is part of Eldjárn’s European tour, which began in Prague in September and has taken him through the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Copenhagen venue is the largest hall on the tour.

Eldjárn said he had prepared material tailored to Denmark and felt the show was the strongest he had performed on the tour so far. He expects about half the audience to be Icelandic, but said he would welcome anyone who came to the show.

Danish comedian Jakob Tornhøj, from Odense, will open. Tornhøj also performed before Eldjárn when he first visited Denmark 10 years ago and is now one of Denmark’s most popular comedians.

Eldjárn said Danish audiences respond well to jokes about themselves. He also said performing in English was not difficult, as he could translate his material and was comfortable with the language.

He has performed at the Royal Theatre before, but never with his own show. Eldjárn said he and his team decided to rent the venue this year because they thought it was a beautiful space.
