Three members of the University of Oulu’s board have submitted their resignation following the selection of a new rector. Professor Johanna Uusimaa and University Lecturer Kimmo Kontio both announced their resignations, while Professor Tiina Kinnunen confirmed to Yle that she had also submitted her resignation yesterday.

Board Chairman Mikko Ayub acknowledged that the announcements came as a surprise. “With the new rector selection, some board members expressed that it was a good opportunity to bring in new ideas to the board and therefore decided to step down,” Ayub stated.

All three members plan to leave their positions on January 1, 2025, coinciding with the start of the new rector, Arto Maaninen, in his role. There is no requirement for resignation letters to include reasons. Further information will be provided soon.
