Police have arrested one person in connection with a suspected shooting that occurred in downtown Tampere on Friday evening, according to Ari Luoto, the on-duty investigator from the Police of Southern Finland.

An eyewitness who spoke to Yle reported hearing several gunshots in Koskipuisto park. The witness described seeing two men running away while another two men chased them, with one of the pursuers wielding a weapon. It appears that the man fired several shots into the ground during the incident.

The emergency services received multiple reports about the event. Around 10 PM, police arrested one suspect based on descriptions from witnesses in the Tampella area. Authorities are still searching for a second individual involved.

Details regarding the type of weapon used in the incident have not yet been confirmed. Police are unclear whether a real firearm was used or if it was a replica. If it is determined to be a genuine weapon, the investigation may include charges related to causing danger to the public.

Koskipuisto is a popular nightlife spot, and according to the eyewitness, there were many people in the area on Friday night. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no additional damage from the incident has been identified at this time.

The investigation will continue on Saturday with the questioning of the detained suspect. Police encourage anyone with additional eyewitness accounts of the incident to submit their information via email at [email protected].
