Ilkka Sasi expelled from Tampere municipal council group of National Coalition Party and Swedish People’s Party
Ilkka Sasi, the deputy mayor of Tampere, has been expelled from the municipal council group of the National Coalition Party (NCP) and the Swedish People’s Party (RKP). This decision was announced by Anne-Mari Jussila, the group chairperson.
The expulsion was decided during an extraordinary meeting of the NCP and RKP council group on Monday, based on accusations of inappropriate behavior and a lack of trust towards Sasi. Jussila described the unanimous decision to expel him as difficult but necessary. Initially, the council group suggested that Sasi resign voluntarily from the group, but he chose to remain.
According to Jussila, discussions regarding Sasi’s conduct as a group member have taken place in several meetings, but he did not manage to regain the group’s trust. Sasi is under investigation for allegations of sexual harassment and alcohol-related offenses, which are said to have occurred last December in Tampere. The police inquiry into these alleged crimes has progressed to the prosecution phase.
Jussila mentioned that the NCP and RKP council group will address Sasi’s membership status after the conclusion of the prosecution’s deliberations.
