The Helsinki Court of Appeals has ordered the re-arrest of a 40-year-old woman suspected of murdering her eight-month-old baby. This decision came on Tuesday, August 20, following her earlier release from investigative detention by a district court on August 8.

According to Chief Investigator, Crime Commissioner Tuomas Lindholm, the district court’s previous ruling was unexpected and contrary to the police’s viewpoint, prompting them to appeal to the Court of Appeals. He described the recent decision as anticipated, reaffirming that the police have always suspected the woman of the crime.

The Helsinki police justified the continuation of the woman’s detention based on the risk of evasion. They expressed concerns that she might avoid the judicial process and any forthcoming penalties. Additionally, there are suspicions that she might flee the country, as her family ties are located in another nation. Lindholm noted that these circumstances increase the likelihood of her attempting to leave.

The Chief Investigator did not comment on the woman’s current whereabouts. She will be transferred to Hämeenlinna Prison, with the deadline for filing charges set for September 25.
