Supreme Court rejects appeal in wife’s killing and rape case
Finland’s Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal by a man convicted of killing and raping his wife in Onttola, Liperi, Yle reports.
The decision makes the Eastern Finland Court of Appeal’s sentence of eight years and 10 months in prison final. The appeal court increased the sentence imposed by the North Karelia District Court and convicted the man of aggravated rape as well as manslaughter.
The crimes took place in February 2024. The man killed his 36-year-old wife with a bladed weapon. A mental examination found that he had diminished criminal responsibility.
Yle is not publishing the man’s name to protect the privacy of the couple’s minor children and because he was found to have diminished criminal responsibility.
