A wolf seen near a school, daycare centre and supermarket in Rauma on Thursday morning may be driven away if it is spotted near people again, Yle reports.

The animal was seen at about 7 a.m. near Pohjoiskehän School, as well as near a nearby daycare centre and in a supermarket car park. Police said it was a small, lone wolf that was also captured on a surveillance camera.

Police said the wolf was not known to have posed a danger or threat to people and had probably moved to less populated terrain north of the area.

Under the police decision, the wolf can be driven away if it is next seen in a residential area or otherwise close to people. The Lounais-Satakunta Game Management Association’s large-game assistance service will carry out the deterrence if needed.

Police have asked people to report any further sightings of a wolf near people or homes to the emergency response centre.
