A father and son now in custody in connection with a homicide investigation were together at a sports bar in Upper Breiðholt on Saturday evening, before a confrontation that led to the death of a 34-year-old man, mbl.is reported.

The dead man reportedly intended to extort money from the son, according to the report. It is not known where the confrontation began. People matching descriptions of the men were seen near Hólabrekka School and Breiðholt Upper Secondary School, mbl.is reported.

The 34-year-old was found dead near the Hraunberg shopping centre, close to the schools. A 35-year-old man who was with him was seriously injured. Both men had previously been convicted of offences. The 35-year-old is suspected of involvement in the alleged extortion.

The son is 34 and his father is 59. The father needed medical treatment for an injured finger, and the son also suffered several injuries. It is not known whether the men carried weapons.

The men’s lawyers, Elimar Hauksson and Guðmundur St. Ragnarsson, declined to comment. Police did not comment to mbl.is on Monday. On Sunday, police superintendent E. Agnes Eide said there was reason to believe the men were connected. All four men are registered residents of Fellahverfi or Bergin.
