An investigation has been opened regarding an attempted break-in at the Veturimuseon water tower in Akaa. The incident took place between July 7 and 8, as confirmed by Chief Investigator, Crime Commissioner Maijastiina Tammisto. The case is being treated as an attempted burglary.

Simo Tuominen, chairman of the museum’s locomotive society, revealed that the attempt occurred during a traditional sauna evening organized by the society. Members were present near the water tower at the time. “We heard some banging from the sauna. We were wondering what the noise was, and it turned out there was a group of youths trying to break into the tower,” he explained.

Tuominen noted that members of the society saw a group of young people near the tower, describing them as being in their teenage years. “Fortunately, we have been left in peace since then,” he added.

Despite the investigation ongoing, the Chief Investigator stated that no suspects have been identified yet, but confirmed the presence of youths at the scene during the time of the incident. Details regarding their number or ages were not disclosed.

Tuominen expressed concerns about the safety of the youths because the interior of the water tower has no valuables to steal, and the tower’s stairs are old and worn. “It is an old tower, and it can be dangerous if someone gets inside,” he remarked.
