Residents say Arnarnesvegur lights cause severe glare

Arnarnesvegur, Kópavogur, light pollution

Residents in Seljahverfi and Kópavogur have complained to the Road Administration about lighting along the new Arnarnesvegur, asking for an assessment and improvements, mbl.is reports.

The complaint says the streetlights tower over nearby homes and cast strong, white, harsh light far beyond the road and into residential areas. Residents say the light spreads much further than needed to illuminate the road and significantly affects their surroundings after dark.

They say the lighting on Rjúpnavegur is warmer and more comfortable, causing considerably less discomfort. They have asked why greater consistency in light colour and lighting conditions was not considered in the design for Arnarnesvegur, and whether its lighting can be adjusted to more closely match Rjúpnavegur.

The Road Administration told Morgunblaðið it is considering changing the lights’ settings.
