Yellow weather warnings issued for southeast gales
Iceland Yellow weather warnings will remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Monday in South Iceland and Faxaflói because of strong southeast winds, mbl.is reports.
Winds of 13 to 23 metres per second are forecast in South Iceland, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 metres per second beneath Eyjafjöll and east to Mýrdalur. Conditions may be dangerous for vehicles vulnerable to strong winds, and people are advised to secure loose objects outdoors.
Similar winds are expected in Faxaflói, with gusts of 30 to 35 metres per second beneath Esja and Hafnarfjall and on the Reykjanes peninsula.
More broadly, strong easterly winds and sharp gusts are expected in southern Iceland during the early part of the day, with rain. Winds will turn southerly later, bringing showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 6 to 15 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures in the north.
On Tuesday, southerly and southwesterly winds of 10 to 18 metres per second and showers are forecast, while conditions will generally be brighter in the northeast. Temperatures are expected to range from 8 to 14 degrees.
