Former Left Alliance MP Katja Laurila, formerly Hänninen, is accused of two violent offences in Raahe, Yle reports, citing Ilta-Sanomat. Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence for aggravated assault and assault.

Prosecutors allege that Laurila stabbed her fiancé in the thigh with a kitchen knife in April 2025, causing a puncture wound. Laurila denies the charges and says the act was not intentional.

In a separate alleged incident in November 2025, prosecutors say she struck the man several times on the head and upper body.

Laurila was a member of Raahe’s city council when the alleged offences took place. She sought to resign from the council in summer 2026. She served as an MP from 2014 to 2023.

The man is also accused of assaulting Laurila in August 2025. He has admitted hitting her in the face, and prosecutors are seeking a fine.
