Finnish police set to gain wider powers against drones

Finnish police would receive broader powers to intervene in the use of unmanned vehicles under a bill submitted to Parliament on Tuesday, Yle reports. The Interior Ministry said the changes are intended to take effect as soon as possible.

Under the proposed rules, police could intervene in the movement and operation of a drone or similar vehicle regardless of whether it travels through the air, on land, on the surface of the water or underwater.

Police could use technical devices, force or a firearm to intervene.

Current legislation refers only to unmanned aircraft. Police may temporarily take such aircraft into custody or prevent their use with technical devices.
