A customer who returned what they thought was a tub of ice cream to Fjarðarkaup discovered it contained meat instead, mbl.is reports. Gísli Sigurbergsson, the store’s managing director and one of its owners, recalled the incident in an interview with Dagmál.
The customer had noticed something unusual about the contents and brought the tub to Gísli, who refunded the purchase. When the contents began to thaw, they appeared to be minced beef that had frozen over at the top. “It was just minced beef,” Gísli said.
Gísli also recalled a customer who recently tried to return a two-year-old pancake pan, saying it had never worked, although it appeared to have been used extensively. His family has run Fjarðarkaup for 53 years. The family has now agreed to sell the store’s retail business to Samkaup.
