A construction company planning a 32-home development in Akaa has filed for bankruptcy, Yle reports. The bankruptcy case was filed with the Pirkanmaa District Court on Wednesday.
The company, Tupla-J Rakennus, also operates under the name Helmitalo. It had planned to build the homes in the Männikkö area of Viiala, with construction scheduled to begin by 2027 at the latest. The homes were to range from 45 to 73 square metres, and the area’s municipal infrastructure is already complete.
The bankruptcy application says the company has about 700,000 euros in debt and 75,000 euros in expected receivables. Its four most recently signed home sales fell through within two weeks, and the application says the company has run out of work and income. The largest creditors are mostly other construction companies.
Four move-in-ready homes were still under construction, according to minutes from a company board meeting on Monday. The application says each project has been brought to a specific stage of construction and that plans have been made to ensure customers can have their homes completed. Yle was unable to reach a company representative for comment.
Helmitalo advertises more than 30 years of experience, but the current company was registered in August 2023. Its revenue was just under two million euros, and it recorded losses in both 2024 and 2025.
