Rain continues across Finland, with up to 30 mm expected daily

Repeated rain is affecting southern and central Finland, with up to 30 millimetres of rainfall possible in a day, Yle reports.

Yle meteorologist Henriikka Heikinoja said a weather front over Finland on Wednesday is bringing rain to much of the country. Continuous rain and drizzle are expected in an area stretching from the south to southern Lapland.

The northernmost parts of the country will have drier and, in many places, sunnier conditions. Temperatures will range from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius.

New low pressure system expected on Thursday

By evening, the dry and clear area in Lapland will expand. Drier conditions will also develop in parts of southern and central Finland, although rain will continue in many places.

Another low pressure system will move over Finland on Thursday. Unsettled and rainy weather will continue in the south and centre, with thunderstorms also possible. Lapland will again have drier conditions.

The heaviest daily rainfall will repeatedly occur in central parts of the country, where up to 30 millimetres may accumulate in 24 hours. Temperatures will remain at Wednesday’s levels.

On Friday, scattered rain will continue in the east, while much of the rest of the country will have somewhat drier weather. Sunshine is expected along the coast and in parts of Lapland.

Overall, the week is expected to remain very rainy. The driest conditions in the coming days will be found in parts of Lapland. The likelihood of thunderstorms in southern and central Finland will vary on Thursday.
