More than 60 news websites operated by Bonnier News and Gota Media were unable to publish articles on Thursday, SVT reported, citing the newspaper Journalisten.
The problem began at about 9.50am and appeared to be linked to a new publishing system. Several trade publications and a large number of local newspapers were still unable to publish articles in the afternoon.
Affected outlets included Sydsvenskan, Nerikes Allehanda, Gefle Dagblad and Östersunds-Posten.
“We cannot publish breaking news that we have received under embargo. As a publisher, it is extremely frustrating,” Martin Ahlquist, acting editor in chief of Dagens Media, told Journalisten.
Emergency website activated
Bonnier News communications manager Magnus Fridell said there was no estimate for when the websites would be able to publish news again.
“They are working to fix it. We have discovered that it is taking some time,” he told SVT News on Thursday afternoon.
Larger outlets such as Dagens Industri had an emergency website activated during the afternoon, allowing them to publish shorter versions of their articles.
