Craft unions and municipal employers must answer mediator by 5pm

Craft unions and the Municipal Employers’ Association have until 5pm on Thursday to respond to a proposal from the Conciliation Institution, KVF reports.

Mediator Terje Sigurðsson told the broadcaster that he could not give details of the proposal. No meeting with the parties has been arranged, he said.

The Conciliation Institution has spoken with the craft unions and the Municipal Employers’ Association this week. The association, the Faroese Craft Workers’ Association and the National Association of Craft Workers have been negotiating a new collective agreement since spring. Their previous agreement expired on 1 January.

The craft unions rejected an earlier mediation proposal less than a month ago. They had called in the mediator after negotiations with the Municipal Employers’ Association ended without agreement.
