The Faroese government will next year launch a study into whether nuclear power could serve as an alternative energy source for the islands, public broadcaster KVF reports.

The 2027 assessment will evaluate costs, safety, environmental impact, technical feasibility, and experiences from other countries. The review will also update climate policy, simplify and accelerate the transition to green energy, and ensure low-income households can participate in the shift.

Plans include expanding wind, solar, and other renewable energy production, while adjusting electricity rates to periods when sufficient green energy is available. Additional support or subsidies may be introduced to ease the adoption of green energy solutions.
