Finnish security centre hosts global TV production

Pori’s Security Centre is currently the filming location for the Finnish series Maailman vahvin sotilas, sold to Discovery, according to a report by Yle.

The centre, opened in 2011, offers diverse training environments, including decommissioned train carriages, a MiG fighter jet, and the recently added Luotitalo facility for live-fire urban combat drills. It serves emergency responders and attracts international clients.

Managed by the city of Pori through a foundation, the 38-hectare site—with 8 hectares developed—has operated profitably for five years. Plans include adding rubble rescue simulations, aircraft fire training, and industrial emergency drills.

Centre CEO Timo Peltoniemi described the facility as unique, with clients limited only by their imagination. The site also repurposes over 100 scrap cars annually for exercises, later sending them for recycling.

While not pursuing TV production as a business, Peltoniemi noted the series brings valuable visibility. Producer Jupe Tuomola of Saha Prod said Pori was the obvious choice for its comprehensive facilities. Competitor Joonas Kuivalainen, familiar with the site from military rescue drills, praised its versatility—even towing the MiG jet.
