Electricity cheapest during daytime hours in Sweden

Electricity prices in Sweden are currently at their lowest between 10:00 and 17:00 during the bright summer months, reversing the usual pattern where nighttime rates are cheaper, SVT reports.

The shift is a direct result of increased solar power generation. Rasam Sheibeh, energy and climate advisor for Sollentuna municipality, notes that only about 15% of households have quarterly pricing contracts, where the cost per kilowatt-hour changes every 15 minutes.

For those on such contracts, Sheibeh advises close monitoring of usage. Households with monthly pricing agreements require less vigilance, he adds.

Adjusting energy consumption habits could save thousands of kronor annually, according to Sheibeh. The daytime discount trend is expected to continue until around September, when reduced sunlight will push prices back up.
