Firefighters rush-order comfort teddy bears for children after Drammen blaze
Norway Drammensregionen fire service has rush-ordered 100 teddy bears to comfort children displaced by last week’s devastating fire in Krokstadelva, reports Dagbladet.
The July 25 blaze destroyed over 100 homes in the Drammen neighbourhood, described as Norway’s most extensive peacetime fire in a century. Many families, including children, were evacuated.
On Thursday, the fire service’s mascot Bjørnis visited Scandic Ambassadeur hotel to distribute the bears, offering hugs and reassurance. “It’s wonderful to spread a little joy to families who’ve had such traumatic days,” the service wrote on Facebook.
The fire service routinely carries comfort bears on emergency calls involving children, noting that a soft toy can shift focus from distress. Sponsors Verisure, Thermax and PostNord covered the bears and delivery.
