A woman in her 30s died in a riding accident in Østre Toten, Innlandet, on Sunday, Dagbladet reports.
The woman, from Romerike, fell from a horse while clearing a jump during a national team training session, according to Haagen Løvseth, operations manager at Innlandet police district. She was declared dead at the scene after life-saving attempts by emergency responders.
Norges Rytterforbund (Norwegian Equestrian Federation) expressed its deepest sympathy to the woman’s family and those affected. President Tore Sannum called the incident a “deeply tragic accident” during what was meant to be a positive national team gathering.
Sannum told Dagbladet the horse stumbled, causing the rider to fall underneath and sustain fatal injuries. He confirmed this was the first such incident in the federation’s history and that crisis support teams from Olympiatoppen and Gjøvik municipality were assisting those affected.
