Finland to introduce counter-drone systems in conscript training
The Finnish Defence Forces will begin training personnel to use counter-drone systems this autumn, with conscript training set to follow next year, according to a statement.
Colonel Mano-Mikael Nokelainen, inspector of air defence, said the systems are being introduced in response to the growing threat posed by drones. The Defence Forces describe the counter-drones as user-friendly and cost-effective.
Newly established drone-defence batteries in Finland will be among the first units to use the equipment.
Mikko Hyppönen, research director at drone-defence specialist Sensofusion, noted in the statement that the rapid technological development of attack drones and drone defence has created a “cat-and-mouse game.” He added that it is only a matter of time before drones begin making life-and-death decisions using artificial intelligence.
