Elisa has acquired all shares in Lapland-based fibre network operator Napapiirin kuituverkot Oy, the company announced on Wednesday.
The fibre network serves customers in Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi, Pelkosenniemi, Savukoski, Salla, Kolar, Pello, Enontekiö and Tervola.
Shares were purchased from Neve Oy, a Rovaniemi city-owned conglomerate, and Koillis-Lapin Sähkö Oy. Neve, which employs 130 people, has developed Lapland’s fibre network for a decade, bringing high-speed connections to rural areas.
Neve CEO Kristian Gullsten said the sale ensures the business remains in Finnish hands and secures reliable telecommunications amid a changing global situation.
Elisa stated it has heavily invested in 4G, 5G and backbone connections in Lapland in recent years, and the acquisition will expand its fibre network to new areas.
