A little-known Finnish multimillionaire has purchased Suvisaari, the former holiday island of public broadcaster Yle, and believes artificial intelligence will transform society.

Asko Schrey, 69, made his fortune selling his accounting firm Accountor, which was valued at around €1.2 billion when sold abroad in 2024. His 16% stake earned him approximately €200 million, taxed in Switzerland where he now resides.

Schrey has since become a prominent startup investor, backing around 25 growth companies, nearly all leveraging AI. His portfolio includes Persona, an AI avatar platform, and M-Vision, which uses AI to speed up medical diagnostics.

He bought Suvisaari (Högkoppan) last year, after Yle ended its 77-year use of the island for employee recreation. Schrey has ambitious plans for the property.

His move to Switzerland followed a life change in 2019, when he met his partner Claire, a Spanish-Colombian, in Paris. They chose Switzerland as a compromise between France’s grandeur and Finland’s climate.
